California Residency - New Students

New students submit a Statement of Legal Residence online in the student portal.  UCSF will review the Statement of Legal Residence information to determine new students' California residency for tuition purposes.

Once you receive a letter from the Office of the Registrar advising you how you can access the student portal, you will be able to submit your Statement of Legal Residence.  You should submit a Statement of Legal Residence as soon as you decide to attend UCSF or if you need a residency determination before you accept your offer of admission.

Exception: Students admitted to Advanced Training in Clinical Research, Doctor of Nursing Practice, Nursing Supplemental Advanced Practice - Distance, Nursing Supplemental Advanced Practice, Healthcare Administration and Interprofessional Leadership, International Dentistry, Biomedical Imaging, Post-Baccalaureate programs, Genetic Counseling, and Global Health master's programs do not need to submit a Statement of Legal Residence.
