Directory Information

Most information in students' education records at UCSF is confidential.  UCSF does not have a student directory available on the Internet.  Nonetheless, the university may, at its discretion, disclose certain directory information upon request:

  • Name
  • Telephone numbers
  • UCSF e-mail address
  • Personal e-mail address
  • Date and place of birth
  • Previous school attended
  • Dates of attendance
  • Degrees and honors received
  • Major field of study
  • Number of course units enrolled
  • Participation in officially recognized activities
  • Photograph

In the student portal, students can indicate whether they would or would not like the university to disclose their name, telephone numbers, primary (UCSF) e-mail address, and secondary e-mail address.  Students should contact the Office of the Registrar if the release options in the student portal will not meet their needs.

Information About E-Mail Addresses

Students who ask the university not to release their UCSF e-mail address will disappear from the global address list in the Exchange (Outlook) e-mail system.  Other UCSF e-mail users access the global address list, which lists names of users, to compose e-mail messages to recipients, so if a student does not appear in the global address list, the sender will need to know the student's full e-mail address.

The university sends official messages to each student's UCSF e-mail address.  When students provide a personal e-mail address, as a convenience to students, the university may send a second copy of some official messages the personal e-mail address as well. UCSF cannot ensure the security or confidentiality of e-mail messages sent to addresses outside the UCSF Exchange e-mail system.  We encourage students to provide a personal e-mail address so they can continue to access the student portal after graduation and order transcripts online.
